Landing at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) is busy enough without rummaging for bank apps at the immigration desk. In July 2026 the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reminded foreign visitors that officers may ask for proof of funds during screening. This is not a new law. It is a long-standing rule being restated so you arrive prepared.
The proof-of-funds requirement has been part of Thai immigration rules since 1980, under a Ministry of Interior announcement. Current amounts were updated in 2000. The same figures appear in guidance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thai embassies and consulates.
Officers apply the rule when they assess whether you are eligible to enter. Some travellers never get asked. Others do, especially if the interview is short, documents look thin, or the queue is under extra screening.
Keep cash, cards, or payment proof in your cabin bag, not in checked luggage.
Depending on your entry category, you may be asked to show Thai baht, an equivalent amount in another currency, or documents that prove payment of an equivalent amount.
Amounts listed in the Ministry of Interior announcement:
Children under 12 are not covered by this requirement.
Visa-exempt travellers should still check the latest note for their nationality and place of departure. Published wording can vary by category.
TAT says visitors may show:
There is no single app that replaces officer discretion. Screenshots help only if the officer is willing to look. Printed or easily opened PDFs are calmer than searching five folders on your phone.
Have accommodation details, a return or onward ticket, and a valid passport in the same pouch. Those checks sit beside funds, not instead of them.
Other entry rules stay as they are:
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is a separate step. Complete it when your trip requires it, before you join the immigration line.
At Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, funds checks happen in the immigration hall, not at the aircraft door. A Fast Track greeter can walk you to the right lane and keep the group together. They cannot waive an immigration question.
If an officer asks for funds:
A booked arrival Fast Track still helps with meet-and-greet, luggage, and getting through BKK with less guesswork. Proof of funds remains your document to carry.
For the latest wording, TAT points travellers to:
The final decision on entry is made by the officer in front of you, under Thai immigration law.
Proof of funds at Thai immigration is old policy, not a July 2026 surprise. Keep 10,000 or 20,000 baht equivalent (or the higher tourist / non-immigrant amounts) easy to show, plus hotel and onward-travel details. Children under 12 are exempt from this funds check. Everyone else should treat it as a possible question at BKK, not a rumour.
Pro tip: photograph your hotel voucher and return ticket, then keep a paper copy in the same sleeve as your passport. If the phone dies in the queue, you still have something to show.

FastTrack BKK now takes Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay, and EU bank apps in euro, plus PayPal, bank transfer, and crypto. Here is how checkout works for Suvarnabhumi Fast Track.
