Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Bangkok airports
VOA is separate from fast track pricing. Plan extra time at the VOA desk, then meet your greeter as on your voucher.
Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Bangkok airports
Some nationalities can obtain a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK). Eligible countries, fees, and required documents change. Always confirm with the Royal Thai Immigration, your embassy, or your airline before you fly.
How VOA fits with fast track (two stages)
Think of arrival in two stages when you use VOA:
- VOA desk - application, photos, fee, possible wait in the VOA hall
- Immigration - passport control, often with fast track greeter after stage one
Fast track saves time in stage two and helps you navigate the airport. It does not replace stage one.
Typical documents for VOA
Requirements vary by nationality. Commonly requested items:
- 🛂 Passport valid at least six months
- ✈️ Return or onward ticket within allowed stay
- 🏨 Hotel booking or address in Thailand
- 📷 Passport photo (check current rules - some airports use kiosk photos)
- 💳 VOA fee in acceptable currency (confirm current THB amount before travel)
Carry printed copies and phone screenshots. Immigration officers may ask follow-up questions about length of stay and funds.
Planning time at BKK and DMK
VOA can add 30 to 60 minutes at busy times on top of walking from the gate. Peak long-haul banks make both VOA and immigration slower.
| Situation | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| Tight domestic connection | Avoid separate-ticket gambles; pad layover or pre-arrange visa |
| First-time VOA | Arrive earlier in the day when desks are staffed predictably |
| Family group | One adult handles paperwork while others stay with bags |
Book fast track if you want a greeter waiting after VOA with a clear meet point on your voucher.
VOA and TDAC (Digital Arrival Card)
Most visitors must also complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) on the official Immigration site before arrival. TDAC is not a visa.
- File TDAC in the official window before you land
- Complete VOA at the airport if you are eligible
- Then proceed to immigration with your greeter
See our TDAC guide for timing and common mistakes.
Nationalities and pre-approved e-visa
If you already hold an e-visa or visa-exempt entry, you usually do not use the VOA desk. Do not stand in the VOA line "just in case." Use the lane that matches your passport status.
When unsure, ask the airline check-in agent at departure and re-check Immigration's published list.
Fees and payment
VOA fees are set by Thai authorities and paid at the airport. Fast track pricing on FastTrack BKK does not include government VOA fees.
Keep some Thai baht or confirm which cards the VOA desk accepts on your travel date.
What fast track greeters do for VOA passengers
- 📍 Meet at the point on your voucher after you clear VOA (unless your voucher states otherwise for a specific pilot program day)
- 👮♂️ Guide you toward priority immigration lanes when eligible
- 🧘 Help orient you toward baggage and ground transport
Greeters cannot influence visa approval decisions.
Common mistakes
- 🛄 Joining VOA queue without checking eligibility (wasting time)
- ⏱️ Booking a 90-minute domestic connection after international VOA arrival
- 💳 Forgetting TDAC and scrambling on airport Wi-Fi
- 🛂 Passport validity under six months
